| es.* Newsadmins' FAQ Introduction This FAQ has been prepared by the es.* committee to give an overview of the local Spanish hierarchy and with the purpose of helping news admins all over the world to configure their news system for the es.* Usenet-newsgroups. Please send your comments and suggestions to: moderador***corus-es.org (David Martinez) This FAQ is archived at http://www.corus-es.org/docs/es_newsadmins_faq.txt Date of last change: $Date: 2005/05/07 15:52:12 $ Revision: $Revision: 1.3 $ Table of contents ================= 1. Recent changes - 2005/05/07 Minor revision after switching domains for the committee servers (from rediris.es to corus-es.org). - 2002/10/22 Removed comment about a typo in the PGP identity. - 2002/03/22 Fixed the CNEWS line as well (the PGP identity is es.news, not es.news.anuncios). Thanks to Modesto again. - 2002/03/15 Messed up with es.news and es.news.anuncios. Many thanks to Julio Sanchez and Modesto Garrido for spotting the typos. Also changed the default action in signed rmgroup messages from 'mail' to 'rmgroup'. - 2002/03/06 Fixed several typos, added some information about active groups file. - 2002/02/13 First version. 2. Who administers es.*? On 1995, a group of newsadmins stablished the structure of es.* hierarchy, since then, the es.* hierarchy is managed by a moderator and after 1998 the moderation is done by a committee. The es.* usenet committee (CORUS-ES) <http://www.corus-es.org> The committee can be reached at: corus-es-request***listserv.rediris.es The es.* usenet moderator / control <http://www.corus-es.org/moderador.es.html> The moderator can be reached at: moderador***corus-es.org The es.* usenet group mentors (mentor-es) <http://www.corus-es.org/mentor-es.es.html> The es.* usenet group votetakers (cuentavotos) <http://www.corus-es.org/cvotos-es.es.html> Guidelines for group creation within the es.* hierarchy <http://www.corus-es.org/docs/creacion_grupos_es.txt> <http://www.corus-es.org/como_proponer_grupos_es.txt> 3. Who is moderador? The Committee has appointed David Martinez to act as moderator (in other hierarchies, this role is called Control) 4. What does the committee do to administer es.*? The committee (CORUS-ES) takes care of the structure of the hierarchy, group management and control, guidelines for the es.* processes, recomendations for es.* newsadmins, etc. The moderador takes care of sending control messages for creating (newgroup), maintaining (checkgroups) and removing (rmgroup) es.* newsgroups and technical issues related to the hierarchy. The mentor-es group takes care of new groups RFD's and group proposers support. The cuentavotos group takes care of group votings and report of results. 5. Which groups should I take on my site? It's up to you to decide, however, if you're taking a "full feed", then you should accept the periodic control messages for the es.* groups issued by the moderador, and nobody else. You may of course decide to take just a part of the hierarchy or not carry disk consuming es.* binaries (in es.binarios.*). It is possible to automate the acceptance of these control messages issued by moderador***corus-es.org, and it is always safe to do so if you first verify the PGP signatures with which they are authenticated. If you don't want to mess with control messages, please update your active groups list periodically with the one at: ftp://ftp.isc.org/usenet/CONFIG/active and extract from it only the es.* groups. 6. How should I configure my news site for es.*? The es.* moderador uses PGP to digitally sign the newgroup, rmgroup and checkgroups control messages. If you are using PGP, you can have the newsserver automatically handle the KeyMaster control messages.
