| Jim Reley once suggested that, if it’s still a draw after extra time, both teams be declared victors. The two teams should then merge, and advance together to the next stage as a joint force, with each coach’s alternatively selecting a player from his original team. Adopting this solution, both Italy and Spain should advance as a single Italo-spanish team. So, today’s semi-final would have been: Russia vs. Spaintaly. In case of further draw between Russia and Spaintaly, the final would be: Germany vs. Ruspaintaly. Discuss the benefits and disadvantages of Jim Reley’s proposal. |

It's a quite logical thing. |

I think you forgot the "il" prefix to logical. It makes no sense to me, whatever. And who is Jim Reley, anyway? As far as an alternative to PKs - I'm for replay. Of course that is difficult in a major tournament, like Euro, but most of the reasons against replay are commercial, and therefore, IMHO, not important. Thanks, Vince |

Agreed - replays are absolutely the best solution to ties. I'm not sure how they'd do it, though, with modern TV schedules. If they could find a way, it'd be far and away the best choice. |
