Hola,
después de instalar el service pack 3 de windows xp, no soy capaz de
instalar el internet explorer 7. Ni desde windows update ni desde el archivo
ejecutable. Siempre sale el mismo error: "No se han podido instalar las
siguientes actualizaciones: Internet explorer 7 para windows xp".

Alguién sabe como solucionarlo??

¿Si la instalación falla, qué dice el archivo ie7.log (Inicio, ejecutar,
escribes "ie7.log"?

Adicionalmente, es recomendadísima la lectura del siguiente artículo
para solucionar problemas de instalación en IE8, cortesía de Enrique
Cortés [MVP]
(aplica igualmente para la versión 7).

he probado instalándolo desde la ubicación que has mencionado, pero sigue
sin funcionar.
el archivo ie7.log es el siguiente:

Bueno, léete el artículo de Enrique para intentar reparar las fallas del
registro en las claves que indica IE7.log y aparecen marcadas como
"unwriteable key".
